Work On Paper ( 2008 – Present )
Like many paintings in After Nature, my drawings combine a variety of mediums—acrylic, flashe, oil, watercolor, ink, powdered glass, graphite—to create the sensation of palpable textures hovering against atmospheric backgrounds. The materials list for Complicated Shadows studies is shorter—graphite, gouache, and acrylic—but the imagery is much more densely layered, with the ground painting partially or mostly obscured. The Starburst prints, which hybridize two naturally occurring patterns—one based on a plant structure, the other on a subatomic lattice, were constructed on the computer before being revised and proofed in the print room.
