Works On Paper
( 1980's - 1990's )
Almost all of my art made between 1987 and 2000 was made on paper, but in most cases I collaged sheets of Braille paper onto canvas, linen or wood supports to create a ground for painting. My studies during this time were most often drawn or painted on a single sheet of Braille paper gridded for charts and graphs. The untitled works from 1996 and 1997, made during or shortly after a studio residency in Paris, show me exploring alternatives to strictly text based approaches, while the printsDislocations Suite and Throughout Nature combine multiple print techniques to complicate my approach to text-based imagery.
